I read a very good blog article by Harry Bingham, UK mystery writer, about travails in the traditional publishing world. He has pursued a hybrid approach by which certain titles (say hardback fiction) goes traditional and a different title comes out in paperback or e-book via Amazon or similar. If you’re going to wait twelve months to see each new title on the shelf, anyway, why not diversity the delivery? Royalty profit from the trads is so very small after distribution to publisher and agent and hardcovers are prohibitively expensive to readers. See Bingham’s full article here:
